made to look like meerschaum

Ref: P0030

A small but beautiful pipe for a quick smoke. The bowl is actually made of ceramic but textured and coloured to look like meerschaum. It has a nickel silver sleeve where the shank meets to mouthpice which is marked "Made in England".

The mouthpiece has been cleaned using isopropyl alcohol to remove any traces of tar and to sterilise it.

Meerschaum Zulu pipe

Laxey closed down their Isle of Man business after the supply of Tanzanian (Amboseli) meerschaum ran out in the year 2000.

Many of their meerschaum pipes were artificially darkened by a high heat process known as calcination to make them look old and well smoked. The blackened surface of this pipe is originally how the pipe was manufactured.

I still own and use a very similar pipe myself that I purchased new in 1972.

The bowl has been reamed to remove the old build up of carbon, and the bowl has also been thoroughly cleaned and polished. The stem has been cleaned and highly polished, and has no signs of bite marks or "teeth chatter". All of the airways have been cleaned out using isopropyl alcohol to remove the old traces of tar.
